Methods Of Non Lethal Conflict Resolution

By Marsha Klein

Scarce resources are the real causes of disputes and conflicts in our modern day societies. At no point in life will resources meet the rising demand and hunt for it and this is equal to stating that conflicts will always arise. Looking for an appropriate way to handle these disputes is a noble course in salvaging the parties involved. Non lethal conflict resolution methods should always be employed and promoted.

All agreements in conflict resolutions are aimed at building consensus in the parties at play. When these parties finally agree at some point and return to normal routine workings then the goal disagree to agree will have been met. For differing parties to attain this consensus, compassion and self sacrifice is encouraged. Even though this process is time consuming, the way these parties used to relate in the past can be achieved.

Struggle is a tactic that works by giving priority to the demands of one state over those of the rivalry. It is therefore a significant factor to force some works where the disagreement is likely to go on for over a long period and time. Struggling does not find out the root cause of the problem, thus raising the possibility of the conflict to recur.

The phrase compromise is a policy that is tries to find out a realistic solution to a disagreement by pronouncing a common position. Through this way, both parties are required to let out some of their demands for a solution to be arrived at. This strategy does not visage the underlying causes a disagreement. Since the opponents relinquish some of the subject matter, they may later become discontented.

A time one party might give up entirely on their objectives and interests. This kind of approach is referred to as the accommodation method. Here, one party gives in entirely to the demands of another. Mostly deployed when one finds out that what he or she is demanding is less important compared to those demanded by the other party. It is applied when one party wants some time until the other opposing one offers a better alternative. Smoothing can also describe this method.

One party walking away can also be a method to embrace. The real cause is put aside or not even looked at by the party walking out in the dream that the conflict is resolved. The party terminating the conflict may have other more important and urgent issues to address in comparison to the problem at hand.

A rather interesting approach to solving an issue is by mere dictatorial. A party with either more experience or large stakes at hand does not give a chance to the minor party to state their problem statement. They decide the fate of the conflict by providing a solution which should be followed by the other party without questioning it. It is mostly seen in diagonal relationships in a business organization. For instance, between a manager and a junior employee.

To communicate openly is definitely the best approach in resolving disagreements. Non lethal conflict resolution techniques advocate for this kind of approach. Empathy should at all times be encouraged especially between individuals and big organizations.
