The Curious Case Of Sergeant Hack

By Carmella Watts

What happened with Sergeant Hack is that he enlisted in the army as a volunteer to be trained in Ranger works. But prior to that, he had already served in the US Navy or Coast Guard when he was just around 17 years in the year of 1957. He gave four years of his service in the US Coast guard.

The military man in question ran for a mayoral bid in the city but lost to the incumbent mayor William Currin. He blamed his loss in the mayoral bid including that of his business in the incorrect information that was published about him. The incident had really affected both the personal life and the business of the soldier.

For someone who is dedicated in his life works, the errors go beyond from insulting to hurtful. Someone deserves to be recognized for his contribution in the military. He is entitled to be rightfully addressed for his true rank in the military.

When you have served your country wholeheartedly with your whole life, omission like that is beyond damaging to the person. This goes to everyone who serves in the military, who fights for the country and whose lives they put on the line for the people in this country to continue enjoy their freedom. While people in the country go to their offices, shop in malls, dine in restaurants and laughing with their family and friends, there are people who are fighting wars in other countries.

And that is because they reckon and had confidence that he could handle and protect himself in the battle and perform the duties and responsibilities expected of a well trained military man in war. Because of what happened, a lot were confused of the real designation of the man. Some claimed that he was only a specialist.

But as they say, you cannot tarnish a good name that easily. The National Personnel Records Center of St. Louis admitted that they made a mistake in appointing the final rank of the soldier. They said they were mistaken in giving away the soldier's number of service and most especially his rank and place of entry.

As to when or how, only the almighty one knows. When these soldiers come out alive from the war and retire from the service, to give them honor and respect for the service that they did is the least that people could do. You may know what it is like to be at war but you will never know what it is like to be in the war, fighting.

It was quite a huge damage. As have been reported, the solider lost in the election and his business also endured some losses due to the issues that were thrown at him. There is already that preconceived perception about the soldier already as being dishonest about his true rank especially those that did not get to hear about the new development of the story or issue and correct the misinformation they got from unreliable sources.

And the right thing they did by writing a letter of apology for Sergeant Hack through his attorney but the damage has been done already. The man lost the mayoral campaign. And according to him, his business had suffered loss because of it.
