It Makes Sense To Buy From A Military Surplus Store

By Lora Jones

Many people notice the quantity of Army apparel that is worn on their local construction site. There is a good reason behind this, and it doesn't mean that the Corps of Engineers are now building apartment blocks. It is merely that the average construction worker appreciates how hard wearing the clothing is. As a consequence they buy a lot of their work clothes from a military surplus store.

Take the boots for example. They have been designed to take a lot of punishment. The Army spend an awful lot of time in boots, so they have to be durable as well as offering the wearer some comfort. Those working on a construction site also have similar needs, and they don't mind if they are not to the latest approved pattern.

All of the clothing used by soldiers in the Army has undergone a lot of consideration and assessing. This ranges from the fabrics used, which are a combination of hard wearing but still lightweight, to the stitching. The fabric is often windproof, due to being tightly woven. The areas at the elbows and knees take the most wear, so are often made of thicker, or heavier gauge, material.

Something else that many purchase are gloves. Gloves are required to either afford protection or to keep hands and fingers warm, hopefully both. However they should not be overly bulky, which would limit all tactile dexterity. The Army also thought up those same requirements.

The armed forces have to operate in a wide range of terrains and environments. As a consequence they can face some of the harshest weather conditions known to man. So it is understandable that their bad weather clothing will be good. All of these items are finding a new market outside of the existing military uses.

Take the average hiker, they also need sturdy boots. They will want their rain wear to be both lightweight and effective. Once again a lot of these items have come down through the military route.

Clothing and footwear are not the only items that the hiker can make use of. There is a high probability that they are carrying their map in a map case, and that they are being guided by either a GPS device or a compass. Perhaps they intend camping overnight, and so they are carrying their lightweight storm proof tent with them. All of these items are easily obtainable at this type of outlet, and they are not expensive either.

Tools are something else that are popular purchases. Once again they have to be robust enough to withstand a wide range of environments. They also have to be functional. Companies with contracts to supply the Armed Forces spend time and effort making sure that the equipment or clothing will ideally suit the purpose for which it is intended.

As a result many more individuals see the merit of buying from a military surplus store. Just like in the Army, they now attract people from all different walks of life. One common factor with these items is that they are not faulty, they have been superseded and so are now surplus to requirement.
